February 2005 Club News

Hello everyone,

Our snow has finally arrived and February has been a very busy month around the old clubhouse. On the 5th we hosted an IF&W Snowmobile Safety Training course for women. The next Saturday, February 12th, we held a Charity Ride in conjunction with Brewer Wal-Mart to benefit The Children's Miracle Network. Our annual club trip on February 18th & 19th, this year to Ashland, saw many new faces attending.

Our next meeting is February 27th with a smothered beef supper at 6pm, followed by a meeting at 7.

We will be holding a spring raffle, an Old Town Canoe, Guide 160 and an Otter Kayak. Tickets are $1.00 ea. or 6 for $5.00 and will be available at the next meeting Sunday Feb. 27th or on Friday nights and weekends at the club.
We need volunteers to help sell tickets at the Maine Sportsmen Show, which is held in the Field House (Memorial Gym) on the UMO campus, March 18th, 19th and 20th, exact times to follow. Mostly need 3-hour slots Friday evening, Saturday all day and evening and Sunday until 4pm, we can be flexible with our times.
B & D Marine has generously allowed us to sell tickets at their booth at no cost to the club and Thompson Printing printed our raffle tickets at practically no cost. So let's pitch in and top last years fundraising. Contact Jamie for available times for the Maine Sportsmen's Show, a list will be circulated at the Feb. 27th meeting.

The trail leading from Route 9 to the Davis Road (#51M) has been reopened. Wood harvesting operations continue in this area six days a week. If you must use this trail please exercise EXTREME CAUTION and be prepared for delays.
Also the power line (#53B), which parallels Route 9 across from the club, is being upgraded and is not passable at this time.

Once again we need to thank our trail crew. We received 2 feet of heavy snow the day before our Charity Ride. If not for the dedication and persistence of these guys and gals, that ride could not have happened. All four of our grooming sleds ran nearly nonstop to a point where the Charity Ride had actually begun. Thanks to everyone that worked around the clock in making this event a reality, you worked a miracle of your own!

The Rice's will be hosting a hotdog roast at their home on Saturday, February 26th from 4 to 6pm. Just follow the signs off trail #107 (the power
line) near Route 1A in Brewer.

We would like to welcome our new members; Dennis & Donna Aleksiewicz of Amherst, Arthur & Jean Girard of Clifton, Greg & Nancy Barrows, and Rena Toomey of Holden, Rose Reiffer of Bradley, Paul & Lisa Gargan and Jimmy Martin of Eddington, and Sally & Greg McMannus of Bangor. WELCOME EVERYONE!!!
