September 2007 Club News

Hello Everyone,

Well another snowmobile season is fast approaching.  I really don’t know where the summer has gone but it is pretty much over.  Soon there will be all kinds of snow and very cold days.  We can only hope.  The 2007-2008 snowmobile season will be here soon but first we have some items to take care of.

The first thing is the annual Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club Open House.  This will take place on Sunday, September 23rd from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the club.  With your paid membership, you will receive a free supper consisting of barbeque chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, ice cream and a soda.  There will also be snowmobiles from all four manufacturers at the Open House as well as a snowmobile trailer from Gillies Truck Caps on sight.  So if you have a bundle of cash that is burning a hole in your wallet or purse, I am sure anyone of the dealers there would be more than happy to help you out.  At 6:00 p.m. sharp the general membership meeting will begin.  So come visit with old and new friends and enjoy the afternoon.  It should be noted that this event will be rain, snow or shine.

The club house is back in one piece after the fire we had.  It was finished 3 weeks ahead of schedule and looks very good.  We still have minor details to finish but we are well on the way to having this terrible chapter in our history book finished.  It has been a very long summer for me and the Directors making sure that the club was back in one piece just like we left it in April.  I know that I will be especially glad to have this behind me.  There is a lot that goes on when things like this occur.  I would like to take this time to thank everyone that pitched in this summer and helped me get things done.  The list is long and you know who you are.   THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke with Larry Lafland today – he called while he was in Loudon, New Hampshire attending the NASCAR race weekend.  Hope it was fun Larry.  Anyway he is going to start working on the trails beginning Sunday, September 30thIt would be great if a bunch of people could come out and help with trail maintenance so Larry could get them all done quickly.  The more people helping the quicker Larry will give you Sundays off.  Check with Larry for the start time at 843-7813.  He really needs help.

Next, the MSA show in Augusta will be October 5, 6, and 7.  We will be selling MSA Raffle tickets at the show on the evening of the 6th.  We will need help.  Speaking of MSA Raffle tickets, Super Lew Tourtillotte will not be in charge of the great fundraiser this year.  He is burned out.  We have no one to take over this position as of yet.  The Directors and I have decided to give all members 10 tickets to either buy or sell and turn back in.  This way we will not need people to go out on weekends to various stores and stand outside in the cold this fall and try to sell tickets.  Your help with this will be greatly appreciated and all proceeds will go on the loan to help pay the loan down on the building.  This loan is the money borrowed to make up the difference that we were short on the insurance.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Sis Rice is organizing the Craft Fair this year, which is another great fundraiser.  This will be held at the club house on November 17th.  All Crafters are needed, if you aren’t crafty, and know of someone who is, contact Sis at 989-5521 or email PKCUDA1973@aol.com. The cost of a table is $25.00.

Well hopefully I haven’t put anyone to sleep with this long newsletter yet.  If you are, WAKE UP.  Here comes the best part.  I have booked 15 rooms at the Gateway Inn in Medway for our annual club trip on February 15 and 16, 2008.  The rooms are $59.95, plus tax per night.  There are two double beds in each room.  I heard there might be an indoor pool there too.  So book early.  I can tell you that rooms are being booked already.  I have heard the Monk family may be attending and if they are you may be lucky enough to receive one of John’s awards.  It is sure to be a good time. If you are booking a room they are under my name, Dain Bryant, just in case for some strange reason you don’t know who I am.  The phone number to the Gateway Inn in 746-3193.

Well that is it.  Hope to see you all at the Open House.  Come renew your membership.  Bring a friend and get them signed up too.  Maybe you will win the membership contest.
