EASTERN MAINE SNOWMOBILE CLUB

October 2008 Newsletter

Hello everyone!

Welcome to new EMSC members:  Richard and Sharon Newey from Eddington, Linda Rockwell from Holden, John O’Neill, O’Neill Power Equipment in Bangor and TBA, Inc. in Bangor.   Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership, this will be your last club newsletter and your Maine Snowmobiler newspaper will end with the October issue.  Contact Danielle Littlefield at 735-5991. We’ll be riding before you know it!!!

October 19th is the Annual Landowner Recognition Dinner with a roast pork dinner starting at 6:00 followed by our club meeting at 7:00.  This is a great opportunity to show appreciation to these folks for their continued generosity allowing us to use their land to access the trail system.  If you plan to attend please contact Larry and Eileen Lafland (843-7813) on or before Friday, October 17th to ensure that there is enough food or to see if there is anything you can do to help.  Members cost for the meal is $5.00 per person.

The Board of Directors meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. instead of Sunday because of the Landowners’ Recognition Dinner preparation.

Trail workdays began on October 5th and will be ongoing every Sunday until the trails are done and ready for riding.  If you’re interested in helping out arrive at the club house by 8:00 a.m. Equipment is provided, but bring boots and gloves, and probably some sort of “orange” attire.  With the heavy winds and rain that occurred this past summer, I’m sure there is plenty of work to be done.  One re-route has been completed on the Stoney Ridge Road.  Remember “many hands make light work”. This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the fall season.  Contact Larry Lafland (843-7813) for additional information or if you know about changes that have occurred on the trails, whether it is construction, or trees that have blown down.  The weather has been exceptional the past 2 Sundays and I want to thank those who helped out.

Brent Spaulding is heading up the 300 Club once again.  Tickets are on sale for $30.00.  If you’re not familiar with the 300 club, it works like this:  When you purchase a ticket you are given a number.  At each club meeting from November to April drawings totaling $1000.00 are given away in increments of one $500.00 winner, one $200.00 winner, one $100.00 winner and four $50.00 winners.  Brent works very hard making this a successful fundraiser for the club, BUT, he could use your assistance by selling tickets.  You don’t have to be a member to get into the drawings and you don’t have to be present to win (however we’d like to have you there).  Contact Brent at 989-7762 if you have questions or would like to purchase a ticket.  Reminder:  Tickets must be paid for in order to be eligible for the monthly drawings.

Our Annual Hunters’ Breakfast will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 4:30-8:30 a.m. at the clubhouse.  Help would be appreciated after breakfast for clean up.  Contact Eileen Lafland at 843-7813 to see how you can help.

Sis Rice and Danielle Littlefield are once again organizing the Annual EMSC Craft Fair, held on Saturday, November 15th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  If you or someone you know would like to rent a table, the cost is $25.00.  Crafters from around the area will be displaying their handmade items for purchase.  Contact Sis at 989-5521 or Danielle at 735-5991.

The rental season has gone quite well with 13 rentals thus far.  If you know of anyone who is interested in renting the club, contact me at 843-0749.  Remember you can view the availability of the hall on our website, under “EMSC Rental Calendar”.  This rental season ends December 30th.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,   Joanne
